Wild & Scenic Rafting Itinerary
The Rogue River is an ideal place for a wilderness whitewater rafting adventure. The beauty, seclusion, wildlife, proximity to major population centers and playful rapids make a Rogue trip with Rogue Canyon Adventures a fun and rewarding experience. Here, you can discover a world of difference!
Our personable and caring professional guides (tops in the industry), seamless logistics, gourmet meals, and the fact that we leave no stone unturned in terms of safety practices and customer service, render exceptional adventure experiences. The result is a river trip of legendary proportions that creates fond lifetime memories.
We offer three types of trips on the Rogue: camp trips, where each night is spent on a pristine white sand beach or forest meadow (we provide all camping gear),wilderness Rogue river lodge trips, where we overnight in rustic and charming lodges that are tucked quietly into the forest just above the river and a combination of camping and lodging. This first section details the first day regardless of trip style. We then describe the camp versus the lodge trip. Both trips run the same stretch of great river and take in all of the Rogue’s magical sights and sounds.
Your trip leader will meet you at the Galice Resort early in the morning on the first day of your whitewater rafting trip. Be sure to eat breakfast before meeting our trip leader. After a brief introduction, the trip leader will distribute waterproof “dry” bags. You’ll then pack your camp clothes, sleeping bag, etc., into the dry bag (keep any items you want during the day out of this dry bag, as we have separate “day” dry bags). After packing your dry bag we answer any last minute questions you may have and make sure your car is parked in the appropriate parking area. We then board the shuttle vehicle for the short, scenic drive to our river trip launch point. Here, you participate in a thorough instructional and safety presentation. Then, it is on to the river!
Fun whitewater, peaceful calms and magnificent scenery will fill your senses. Soon we pull over for a delicious lunch that will fuel your system for the afternoon of rafting. During the initial stretch of river, we reach Rainie Falls, a thundering drop that we skirt by walking around or by running a sneak channel, depending on water levels. More phenomenal rapids and scenery are found below Rainie Falls before reaching camp later in the afternoon. We make camp on a sandy beach or forest meadow, enjoy an afternoon snack and unwind as the guides make the first of many delicious dinners. In the evening we listen to the river and share tales of the Rogue as the canyon walls fade in the twilight.
For Camp Trips: Each day on the Rogue follows a similar routine although no two days are alike. Breakfast, a multi-course hot meal with lots of coffee or cocoa, and fruit, cereal, and yogurt, is served as the sun rises in the canyon. After breaking camp and loading the rafts, we run rapid after exhilarating rapid, drift through idyllic calms, marvel at the rock formations, watch eagle and osprey as they circle overhead, as well as enjoy the scenic wilderness. Depending on the day, we may visit Zane Grey’s former writing getaway, hike up to one of the many side creek waterfalls and swimming holes, or visit a remote wilderness lodge. Lunch is set up each day around noon with more than enough delicious food to energize you for the afternoon’s rafting. In the late afternoon we set up camp in another beautiful wild place. The early evening hours provide time to fish, hike, read a book, enjoy happy hour snacks and beverages or take a nap. Dinner, in all of its glory, is prepared and served with style and flair. You will eat meals that have been labeled as the finest outdoor cuisine imaginable. The campfire lights the night sky and the sound of the river lulls us to sleep. (During the later summer months campfires may be prohibited.)
Lodge Trip Itinerary:
After the first day we reach Black Bar Lodge, one of the Rogue’s most picturesque wilderness lodges. Here we unwind on our cabin porch or in front of the main lodge with an absolutely beautiful view of the Rogue canyon. The following day after another incredible day on the the river we reach Marial Lodge. The charm of Marial Lodge is only matched by the warm hospitality and delicious food. The meals here are superb! From Marial we can hike to the historic Rogue River Ranch where we can explore historic buildings and swim in a crystal clear pool in Mule Creek. The lodges have hot showers, toilets, warm beds, and homespun help.
After breakfast we float the river, enjoy lunch on the banks of the magical Rogue and reach take-out in the early afternoon. Following a celebration toast to a great whitewater rafting trip, we head over the hills back to Galice. The drive is approximately 2 hours on a relatively steep and windy road that affords wide views of the Siskiyou Mountains. We reach Galice generally in time for night flights out of Medford. Note: The river take-out point at Agness is approximately thirty-five miles from the Oregon coast. Those with travel plans that include visiting the coast can have their vehicles shuttled to the take-out point at Agness for a nominal fee. The Galice Resort provides this service.
